these are my people

IT courses are a funny thing… not to be sexist, but normally it’s a bunch of IT guys completely wired on coffee and sugar, listening to another IT guy going through and explaining what is commonly referred to as “death by powerpoint”…

I always find it interesting to hear from other guys that do a very similar job to me… but normally start to feel a little claustrophobic…

i don’t want to start generalising too badly but…

nerds and geeks, what’s the difference?

i did some google’ing and the general consensus seems to be:

the terms aren’t necessarily IT specific, while both “types” are good technically at whatever, say star trek, WoW, network management, PABX systems, scale modeling, whatever!

geeks;

  • have good communication skills,
  • are aware of their appearance,
  • are generally better looking (because of the above i guess)…

in my experience, the some nerds are really outspoken in big circles of nerds, always trying to prove a point that no one is really arguing anyway… unless there is another outspoken nerd around…

…hmm not really sure how to end this post, it’s not like i have a point here…

maybe just that-

  • IT courses are a really compressed environment,
  • IT seems to attracts people that are passionate about just a few things that may or may not include personal hygiene and…
  • personality profiling is not my forte

next post: how did you “make” mushrooms?
