seeing as the weather was pretty good yesterday we went to the gardens for a picnic with wendy, shane, sarah and jude… great to get some fresh air and sunshine, i even got told off for kicking a football around (no fun allowed apparently)…
the sarlins have headed off home via canberra now, it’s been cool to have wendy stay… and unbelievably it’s only about 5 weeks till we head north to queensland again!
so, the champions league final was good, and as expected… kind of… for once, i wasn’t frustrated by diving cheats the whole time, so that’s a start. a couple of years back we saw an all italian UCL final, i wonder which match the neutral supporter or new come’r would’ve preferred?
skippys header was a cracker, perfect placement, unstoppable…
lamps’ goal, umm, fortunate?
chelsea hit the goal frame twice more during regular time but it still played out for 120 minutes and had to be decided by penalties, and john terry in particular. he could’ve wrapped it up, and frankly, i thought he would. but no. pretty much a carbon copy of beckhams pen against portugal in portugal, his planted foot slipped and that was that.
it’s strange, with margins so close, neither team can really claim to have had it in the bag the whole time… and i definitely think chelsea’s road to the final was much more difficult than man u’s, but whatever… no one will remember how close the match was when a certain red a strip has an extra gold star sewn on it next season.
i’ll leave you with possibly the most telling statistic from the match…
crazy huh, i’m glad i’m on a capped mobile plan so i don’t have to think about the money that would’ve gone through twitter in more than a year… all in all;
it’s been fun,
i’m not that addicted,
it’s useful for miniblogging,
i’ve seen some excellent random links,
the outages don’t really annoy me,
still no ads, great!
i’m not that much of a freak!
mtub peeps are pretty cool.
so yeah, i’ll keep doing it, and encouraging others to, even if i can’t answer the their question “what’s the point?” easily. i guess the thing is not to over-think it. which is hard for me.
updated twitterstats:
in the spirit of random internet stuffs, i have succumbed to the enormous pressure and created a tumblelog…
“…is a variation of a blog that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common post formats found on tumblelogs include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Unlike blogs, tumblelogs are frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or experiences while providing little or no commentary…”
i’m going to use it to collect and post random interesting stuff i find on the web, but unlike the full-on wordpress style blog, the tumblr will just be a stream of pics, vids, quotes and links… so it’ll be just like my digg favorites, only not. ie, in one place and fully customised…
the fa cup came and went on saturday night, it was good to see neither team involved was one of the “big four”… i have to say though, cardiff looked the better team the whole match but just couldn’t put it away… kanu ended up bundling in a keeper error… it wasn’t really an error, but c’mon, a near post cross that he should’ve probably just caught instead of punching…
oh well, it was a lot more exciting than last year.
i read an interesting argument the other day… which is the best league in europe?
it’s a question that can’t really be answered. i know which leagues frustrate me most, don’t ask. that said, this seasons Man U hasn’t just ground out the season with one-nil wins, they won with style and swagger. brilliant to watch, always threatening to score and yes, i will be supporting chelsea on thursday, but with JT and drogs injured last week, can’t see the blues getting up…
so after seeing this i managed to steal away a couple of hours on saturday afternoon… not to see himnecessarily, really just to see the exhibition, after all we live in melbourne, it’d be a pity to miss it…
yeah anyway, among the many amazing things there, i played some atari 2600 classics, watched other people play some commodore 64 games, but the best thing was… they had a working “simon” there. i played through to the end of level 2, and now i have to get one… i think some friends of mine back in NZ had a couple of these things and… i have to get one…
they must be borderline “educational” and liam might even get a kick out of it, eventually.
onto actual news i guess, kim’s sister is staying with us for a fortnight which is pretty cool, we went out to hampton park for a family lunch on sunday, great to see everyone again… liam’s 2nd (?) cousin nyha is such a little cutie now…
some things that i really dislike about the ipod touch or iphone for that matter, is the fact that to do anything with it (skip track, adjust volume, etc), you have to take it out of your pocket or bag and look at it… and i have to use two hands (although that’s probably because i’m a noob).
everytime i do so, i feel like i’m showing the stupid thing off.
“look everyone, i have an ipod”
“big freakin’ deal”
i know, this is because it’s a touch screen (wow, isn’t it pretty) and steve jobs has an actual aversion to buttons, but i wonder how this goes down in not so savory parts of the world where getting mugged is a real issue.
seeing as kim has been in brisbane this week and weekend, nothing much has been happening that i feel compelled to post about, i thought i may as finish the post from a couple of weeks ago…
so the sourceforge project “mliPod” is the place to go to get your iPod working without iTunes, for whatever reason, i’m not going to get into that now, anyways…
with a correctly tagged and rated winamp media library, the functionality of mliPod is truly astounding… in the same way as pete, i used to just add and remove the same sort of set of albums, but with “autofill” i am listening to a much bigger variety of music and enjoying it more! below is a screen cap of the options presented…
notice, it won’t bother with tracks shorter than 1 minute… my current rating proportions are set like this:
which, maybe needs a little tweaking, but we’ll see… and below is how the software decides on the tracks to use with autofill… once the offline scrobbling issue is fixed for the iPod touch, i will change my setting to be “last play time, least recent first”…
so there you have it, free yourself of iTunes, fair use is for everyone.
last night, after watching sports tonight on channel 10, as soon as i saw it was the judge judy ep of the simpsons, i switched over to watch some “news” on channel nine… which was fine, death and destruction, followed up with heart warming story, then 10 minutes of AFL **groan**, then half a mention that went like this:
“…and in racing news, current world motogp champion, australian casey stoner finished 3rd behind dani pedrosa and five time world champion valentino rossi…”
i said out loud, talking to the tv:
“FAIL, they qualified edwards, rossi, stoner, lorenzo, can’t these commercial news channels get ANYTHING that isn’t AFL right? damn!” …the voice in my head, then reminded me the race was in shanghai and their time zone isn’t too dissimilar from ours… and then the penny dropped.
i am the idiot, and they just spoiled the race.
terrific.
being the glutten for punishment i am (or diehard fan? whatever), i watched the race this morning anyway, once edwards outbraked himself it was actually pretty boring, credit to lorenzo for riding with a broken ankle and still finishing in the top five! freak.
so, if you’re a guy, and you were brought up to be polite… i’m curious, is it possible for a woman to be rude?
i try to open doors for people and all the rest but… when you’re queuing, if a female pushes in, are they actually pushing in, or should they just be let in because you’re a “gentleman”?
OFTEN when i’m waiting to get on a train, it pulls up, i turn to face to the door and a female in business attire will step in front of me… “umm, ok”, i think, i was going to open the door for you but, whatever.
I can only guess this comes as a reaction to all the guys that i see, pushing in front of them and racing for a seat before anyone else can get inside the carriage… which, i think, is ever sadder…
so, information obtained under torture and we’re ok with that? really?
wow
if you (the US) want to be righteous in your war on whatever and have the support required, you have to be completely above board in everything you do… you can’t put people in a prison where the geneva convention doesn’t apply, (allegedly) torture them, and expect “terrorists” or foreign nationals to love your work…
instead, there will be resentment and mistrust.
i know we don’t live in a world with pixies and fairies, and sometimes i have to face the facts. it just seems gitmo is driven by a lust for revenge for nine eleven… ugh, can i please drop this now?
with me changing the blog theme for something more lightweight, which then broke the photo gallery and archives, plus we’re giving liam formula now (he hasn’t been taking to it very well) AND the champions league semi-finals on kicking off at 0430 on both wednesday and thursday morning, i’ve been getting about 5 hours sleep every night this week…
poor me, i know… i think it just goes to show how amazing mums are!
funny thing though, we got our first sleep in, in almost 8 months on anzac day morning, liam slept from 11pm till around 5am, went back to bed and didn’t wake up until almost 9am! that NEVER happens. while we’re talking about it, the long weekend was great, we didn’t do much, i looked after liam a couple of times while kim went to a couple of different things around the place (a wedding, a baby shower etc)… i took him to the pool on sunday afternoon and he went ballistic! he just wouldn’t lie still, had to be splashing or wiggling all the time… he’s just becoming aware of how he can affect the water, and make some noise himself…
so, the european champions league…
umm, the semis were; man u vs barca & chelsea vs liverpool.
i only watched the 2nd half of the first match, man u looked nervous and toothless, and eventually edged 180 minutes of football 1-nil. even though they won, they ended up with 38% possession and if tevez wasn’t playing it would’ve been completely different…
as for chelsea vs liverpool, it all ended up 4-2 to chelsea… anelka looked very offside when he setup drogba’s 2nd, but overall, i think the better team won… and i just hope they can beat man u for a second time this season… i’ll let you know.
oh hey, i’m seeing iron man tonight, since kiss kiss bang bang and scanner darkly, i’ve become a real fan of RDJ, plus i used to read the iron man comics back in the day so, should be good!
