i honestly don’t know how kim does it.
with me changing the blog theme for something more lightweight, which then broke the photo gallery and archives, plus we’re giving liam formula now (he hasn’t been taking to it very well) AND the champions league semi-finals on kicking off at 0430 on both wednesday and thursday morning, i’ve been getting about 5 hours sleep every night this week…
poor me, i know… i think it just goes to show how amazing mums are!

funny thing though, we got our first sleep in, in almost 8 months on anzac day morning, liam slept from 11pm till around 5am, went back to bed and didn’t wake up until almost 9am! that NEVER happens. while we’re talking about it, the long weekend was great, we didn’t do much, i looked after liam a couple of times while kim went to a couple of different things around the place (a wedding, a baby shower etc)… i took him to the pool on sunday afternoon and he went ballistic! he just wouldn’t lie still, had to be splashing or wiggling all the time… he’s just becoming aware of how he can affect the water, and make some noise himself…
so, the european champions league…
umm, the semis were; man u vs barca & chelsea vs liverpool.
i only watched the 2nd half of the first match, man u looked nervous and toothless, and eventually edged 180 minutes of football 1-nil. even though they won, they ended up with 38% possession and if tevez wasn’t playing it would’ve been completely different…
as for chelsea vs liverpool, it all ended up 4-2 to chelsea… anelka looked very offside when he setup drogba’s 2nd, but overall, i think the better team won… and i just hope they can beat man u for a second time this season… i’ll let you know.
oh hey, i’m seeing iron man tonight, since kiss kiss bang bang and scanner darkly, i’ve become a real fan of RDJ, plus i used to read the iron man comics back in the day so, should be good!

yeah, i know, that’s old… (but still funny)…
just wanted to post quickly about the NUFC form change… check it:
Sat. 08 Mar - Liverpool 3 - 0 Newcastle
Mon. 17 Mar - Birmingham 1 - 1 Newcastle
Sat. 22 Mar - Newcastle 2 - 0 Fulham
Sun. 30 Mar - Tottenham 1 - 4 Newcastle
Sat. 05 Apr - Newcastle 3 - 0 Reading
I know, not exactly top tier opposition, but hey, we’ve lost to much less… so yeah, 5 games; 10 goals for, only 5 against, not bad. apparently they’re playing in a 4-3-3 formation with… wait for it… martins starting!
i did actually download all our fixtures and results so i could graph the rollercoaster of a season it has been but haven’t gotten around to mapping it all out… who knows, maybe a top half of the table finish isn’t out of the question this season!
**sigh**

we won a match!
i didn’t want to get my hopes up before the game as fulham haven’t won away for something like 30 matches, and the last team they beat on the road? newcastle.
anyway, it’s done now, phew, i didn’t see the match unfortunately (i did watch our loss to liverpool the other week though
), apparently we started with martins, dukes and owen up front… which is good, if he’s fit, i think martins should start every match…

horrible stats huh… what a shocker.
hey, the socceroos play china this week, a very important match for the world cup qualifiers… timmy and emmo are both out injured, so hopefully the rest can step up, we’ll see.

…ended up falling asleep on the couch on sunday (do you blame me?), not only was i worn out but lost404 was a “kate” episode, BORING… i wish they would just explain how the “oceanic 6″ got off the island and get back to telling the main story line; the present. i’m sick of seeing what is essentially the past, being eeked out, damn.
if i ever want answers i’m addicted to the wrong tv show, huh.
oh yeah, newcastle had another 5 goals put past them on the weekend, terrific. form from the last 5 matches?
2 goals for,
16 goals against,
granted our last 5 opponents were:
arsenal (cup),
arsenal,
‘brough,
‘villa,
man u.
but c’mon! 1 premier league point from a possible 12… it’s not looking good at all. i wish big sam was still around. there, i said it.
good to see another season of bike racing has started again, i haven’t finished watching race 1 yet, so don’t stress about the spoilers… hmm, that said i did see nori have a massive slide and high side after giving max biaggi the finger, classic stuff! (i’ll try to find a youtube vid of it).

last wednesday australia played the first of it’s world cup 2010 qualification matches… you may have been waiting for me to post a picture of how i would’ve like to have seen them run on but i didn’t get around to it nevertheless joel pre-empted… and i ended up emailing around to a few people what i thought, and after watching the match (a day late), and seeing the wrap up this afternoon; my predicted lineup was mostly correct!
diamond midfield with cahill at the point and culina protecting the defenders…
my thoughts on the match? obviously the first half was excellent, i don’t think carney will ever be displaced from the team, he was the standout… interestingly, i re-read my aus vs arg post, carney stoodout then too… ok who else… i’m not sure bresciano should be a certain starter anymore, he didn’t ever seem to create much or take on his players… he scored, great, and it seemed to be the only goal they meant to score but otherwise, maybe we should start looking for a quicker and more creative centre midfielder to get us to 2010?

as above, we took liam to a local pool for his first swimming lesson and he had a great time… with all the excitement he lasted about twenty five minutes through a thirty minute lesson, so that’s not bad for his first time…
on friday night, me and some of my work mates went to the australia vs india twenty20 match at the mcg… it was a bit crap really, 75 runs, the stadium booing singh, the crush at richmond station afterwards… oh well, being at the G when it’s sold out is still a really amazing thing… i often wonder what the san siro must be like, given they fit 85 thousand people around a square pitch rather than an oval, like the g…

neil is spot on, i haven’t even mentioned that nufc have sacked big sam, and employed kevin keegan as manager for the second time… granted, we haven’t been as successful as i’d hoped under big sam, but i certainly hadn’t given up, he should’ve been given more time!
so that got me thinking, a quick check of wikipedia got me the below data… i’ve removed the caretaker manager data, and removed some columns…
i also wanted to get the data for a “highest place achieved in premier league” column, but couldn’t find the data easily enough… since keegan left the first time there has been a bit of a slide in results, do i think he can get us back to that place? not really… but i hope he gets at least 18 months to try… 8 months is nowhere near enough, especially with the injuries we’ve faced.

a couple of firsts in the weekend just gone, we took liam along to the melbourne victory match vs adelaide united at the telstra dome…
he was really good, for the most part but i think it got a little loud for him eventually, which is understandable really, the crowd was generally very frustrated with the victorys performance… can you believe the melbourne media hasn’t given up on a top four spot? i think it’s over sadly…
click the photo to see some more…
something else i did on the weekend; go to a golf driving range… after an absence of more than 18 months. i was talking to a mate at a christmas party last friday about golf, and got curious about just how crap i actually am. turns out, very.
and i’m not going to be able to play the “shoulder reconstruction” card much longer. my dad is probably better than me and he plays every ten years!
yikes.
work has been very average recently, but i think we’ve turned a corner now, just politics and crap, not fun… i found out today that i’ll be in sydney till thursday night on a hitachi course, so that’s pretty cool, even with the pressure to sit and pass the exam at the end…
ok, and i can’t end without boring you with “interesting” tech news, newznozzl, a meta-meta site… filtering all the “best” links from sites like digg and del.icio.us, and allowing you to vote for the stories from there… it reminds me of a scene from that marky mark movie… the problem is that, even though newznozzl doesn’t take submissions, either, there will be less submissions to the other sites overall or meta and meta-meta sites will die alike, “people” won’t know where to get their “not-news” and end up going back reading one site only… like fark.
so, head a sploded yet?

so, wednesday night, a lot was said about beckham, but not much of the match… i guess that’s to be expected but c’mon, he wasn’t the only guy on the pitch!
there were times where the galaxy would pass him the ball and he’d look up, and not a single player from his team were moving off the ball… just gawking… after that team performance i get the impression that he’s going to bored and lonely playing LA… i mean, yeah, money is great but he’s no where near his friends or family (don’t say tom cruise), and if the quality is anything to go by he would’ve been better off coming to australia!
did you see that guy step on the other guys wrist? what was that all about? weird.

so other people have had babies before, apparently we aren’t the first to go through this… but, this blog is about stuff i write about so it’s difficult not to write about… well, me.
now that that’s said, last week, the nurse told kim liam would be a bit more challenging in the coming weeks… and we are so there. he isn’t settling as well and when he finally does, it’s only an hour or less till his next feed… i’m not doing the majority of the care and i’m pretty tired, kim is holding up really well though, and the little smiles and faces he makes, make it all really special.
it was cool to have my mum & dad stay with us last week, we traveled around a bit saw some sites, but mostly just hung out at home with liam… dad and i went to the victory vs glory match, they also went on the tram car restaurant, we went to bells beach (awful weather though), and wandered around the queen vic markets…
here are some new pics
interesting to this in the news tonight, especially considering the problems kenmore had securing some land a couple of years back… good to see too, i reckon.
lastly, i made some brownie puddings on saturday, so so good, if i do say so… but while searching for inspiration that night, i’m getting pretty sick of nigella being referred as a goddess, really, you write a book with that in the title and be forever slated as such…

i’m not going to start posting about the weather, that’s akin to… well, i’d rather not say…
…but just quickly, the weekend just gone contained the first bbq since last summer, and that’s always a nice feeling… especially when you cook the fillet steak, and it is perfect, i was both surprised and elated… the weapon of choice was a gas weber, on its first run… sooo good.
anyways, we’re still enduring the veritable unexploded bomb that is late pregnancy, i say we, but, you know, mostly kim… there’s nervousness, excitement, anticipation, etc… it’s a strange feeling.
if you managed to ignore my twitter spam the other day, i’ll run down the aus vs arg match at the mcg i attended the other night; from where i sat, australia weren’t overrun at all, they may have been outclassed a little in midfield, but overall they stood up, and were very unlucky not to score in several instances… carney played extremely well, even confidently against such attacking class… i guess the one nil loss was fair, if only the socceroos had played like that while in the asian cup… maybe it was the weather after all?

hey, so now the twitter digests are working, i’ve taken off the sidebar panel to cut down the redundant information, still not sure if i like them, they seem a bit like spam, but will persist never the less…
the weekend just gone? yeah good, didn’t really do much… poker on friday, didn’t win, drank too much (just quietly)… still fun though, sometimes you just need the cards, i didn’t get dealt much the whole night, but on the plus, didn’t see any folded hands win once the table cards came out…
saturday we were supposed to be giving away our old couch since we bought new black leather ones, but, turned out to be a last minute no-show, oh well… kim then went out with her aunty, i relaxed, then went to fitzroy to play soccer but because i left my lunch so late, felt really sick from running around… lesson learnt.
we were planning on going to see the new bourne movie that night but it isn’t out yet! so we had dinner at hawksburn, a little italian place that has replaced a restaurant we used to go to. it was alright, not special, we then went up the road to another place we used to go “something forno” for dessert, it was shutdown too! damn…
we ended up going to a place on carlisle st, turned out to be excellent! can’t remember the name though…
kim had sticky date pudding, because i am not pregnant, i had creme broulee,
i had to work later that night and then sunday we went for a picnic in the park (i forgot the camera), but apparently it got to 26 degrees! 2nd warmest august day in melbourne on record… amazing.
