You're talking about Dunbar's number: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar_number

I never throw out CDs. Not even the embarrassing ones. My musical taste is...well, I just let what interests me take me down said path. Same with lit.

Being a former classical music nerd, it always seems like there's so much more wonderful music to discover - I feel this way about books too.

In summary, the older I get the MORE new music I listen to. I salute my classical training for that. Woo!

Honestly Luke, who cares what the indie kids think? They're the elitist snobs of the pop music world, if you ask me...

I know sometimes I jokingly give some of my pals crap for what they listen to but at the end of the day, if you enjoy it, it shouldn't really matter who else does. Though I notice that having broad taste in music can be a bit lonely, you've got no one to squee with.

Also, as a budding wordsmith, it irks me that more people don't pay attention to lyrics. But that's me being lit-snobby I guess!

Nice post. Sometimes I think too many people are resistant to change, especially when it comes to music. I dig the new Kings of Leon album, and I love the fact that they as a band have evolved over the years. Each album pushing their sound into another direction. That's why Sonic Youth blow my mind. And then you have bands like Pearl Jam who release the same album over and over and over, but the kids (seem to) love em' because they don't go changing.
